MOCA Fires Paul Schimmel, Hires Shepard Fairey for All Future Design Work

LA Weekly reports on some of the newer developments going on at MOCA in regards to who is being laid off, who’s onboard and how Shepard Fairey’s design firm is now spearheading the look of MOCA.  Is this contemporary art scene now the major influence for the art scene in Los Angeles?  What do you think of these developments?  Is art just becoming a hyped fad to be exploited or is this an actual changing of the guard that will push art and it’s cultural representations forward?

MR PORTER: What They Wore – Milan Fashion Week [VIDEO]

An interesting way to show what all the different men were wearing at Milan Fashion Week.  It’s interesting to see how people from all over the world can share some of the same looks as each other while simultaneously bringing something unique.  We really like how MR PORTER put this together with no words*, just images and music so anyone can get what’s going on.

The Diamond Way: Jacob Arabo aka Jacob the Jeweler via Life + Times [VIDEO]

Many have heard of Jacob the Jeweler or Jacob in plenty of hip-hop songs as he has supplied names like Jay-Z, 50 Cent and more with custom jewelry…expensive custom jewerly at that.  It’s interesting to see the impact this guy, an immigrant from Uzbekistan, has had on not just hip-hop but music in general.  He’s made jewelry for Jennifer Lopez, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Posh Beckham and Elton John as well as non-musicians like Geena Davis, former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani and David Beckham.  In this interview with Life + Times he talks his creative process and artistic vision and then shows off his Royal Diamond Watch.  Sorry he doesn’t talk about his alleged connection to Black Mafia Family (BMF) or the money laundering charge.

Yayoi Kusama x Louis Vuitton Pop-Up Store Preview

We’ve shown you the pieces and the phone app from this collaboration and now the two have released a preview sketch of their pop-up store.  They are looking to open these pop-ups in New York City, Pacific Place in Hong Kong, Ngee Ann City in Singapore, Isetan’s Shinjuku branch in Tokyo, the Dover Street Market in Ginza, Printemps in Paris and Selfridges in London.  The first will open in New York on July 10th.  This will also coincide with both the Infinitely Kusama collaborative line as well as the artist’s gallery opening at the Whitney Museum.  On July 8th, Kusama’s touring retrospective will be unveiled.

Kate Upton Covers Vogue Spain [Photo Spread]

It seems every week Kate Upton is shooting a new cover story for some magazine or releasing a behind the scenes video for a shoot.  Well this week her pictures from her Vogue Spain shoot have surfaced and the internet is going crazy again, tumblrs are filling up timelines with images and more fans are talking about which photo is now their new favorite.  The photos are good and it could be possibly because it’s outdoors…but we’re wondering if for this magazine they made Kate look more tanned and dark haired then she is normally?  Take a look and think back on some of her other recent shoots and let us know your thoughts on this?  If you agree she looks different tell us why you think so.

Hiroshi Fujiwara – Digest Ver. [MUSIC VIDEO]

A man of many hats, Japanese designer, producer, musician and “godfather of streetwear” Hiroshi Fujiwara returns with another display of his musical talents, this time in the form of a new music video. Focusing predominately on the musician himself, the video sees the artist performing with his guitar in a variety of settings. A stark look that perfectly accompanies the subtly-layered acoustic track, the video serves as a precursor to the single’s official physical release via fragment24 on July 11. – via Hypebeast
